Children’s Book Council of Australia 2016 Notables

Congratulations to the authors, illustrators, editors, publishers and those who inspired them to create the ‘Younger Readers – Book of the Year’.

Last year, I made a plan to read all short listed CBCA books, a plan which unfortunately fell short. This year, my new plan is to begin with notables and write an Educational Review or Review on each of the books. Wish me luck, I will begin with the Younger Readers section.

The following books have been announced as the Younger Readers – 2016 Book of the Year notables by the judges at the Children’s Book Council of Australia.

Congratulations to:

The Cleo Stories: A Friend and a Pet      Libby Gleeson (Illust: Freya Blackwood)        Allen & Unwin

Soon  Morris Gleitzman   Viking Books, Penguin Group (Australia)

The 65-Storey Treehouse     Andy Griffiths (Illust: Terry Denton)      Pan Macmillan Australia
The Cut Out      Jack Heath       Allen & Unwin
300 Minutes of Danger       Jack Heath      Scholastic Australia
Run, Pip, Run      J. C. Jones      Allen & Unwin
Bella and the Wandering House      Meg McKinlay      Fremantle Press
Bridget: A New Australian       James Moloney        Omnibus Books, Scholastic Australia
Sister Heart      Sally Morgan       Fremantle Press
Molly and Pim and the Millions of Stars      Martine Murray      Text Publishing
Helix and the Arrival        Damean Posner (Illust: Jules Faber)        Random House Australia
Shadows of the Master      Emily Rodda      Omnibus Books, Scholastic Australia
The Fourteenth Summer of Angus Jack     Jen Storer (Illust: Lucinda Gifford)    ABC Books, HarperCollins Publishers Australia
The Hush Treasure Book    Karen Tayleur    Allen & Unwin

I will endeavour to read and write an Educational Review or at least a Goodreads review on all of the above books. An example of the Educational Review I wrote for last year’s shortlisted book, by Bill Condon (who was kind enough to write a personal email thanking me for my review) The Simple Things

I also attended a 2015 CBCA event which discussed the short listed 2015 books. I wrote a blog on my attendance for the Just Write For Australia website.
